Yesterday, one of my neighbors was killed in a head on collision down the street from my house. I had left my house probably 5-10 minutes before it happened. I was at my grandma's house and my dad called. He sounded weird. He asked me where I was, even though he knew I was with my grandma. So he came over a little while later and told me about the accident. They had the road completely blocked off and he talked to the cop that was directing traffic. Here's how the conversation went:
Dad: I'm not trying to be nosy, but what happened?
Cop: There was a head on collision, we have the road closed and we're waiting on air life.
Dad: My daughter just drove through here about half an hour ago.
Cop: What kind of vehicle was she driving?
Dad: A truck.
Cop: What color truck?
Dad: Burgundy/maroon
Cop: What kind of truck?
(Mind you, at this point my dad is shaking and freaking out)
Dad: A Toyota.
Cop: It wasn't a Toyota.
Dad: Are you sure?
Cop: It wasn't a Toyota.
Dad: I'm going to pull up here and call my daughter, if she doesn't answer, I am going to drive over there.
Cop: *silence*
So that's why my dad sounded all weird when he called. That's why he asked me where I was. He thought I was dead/dying. The weirdest part about the whole phone call thing was that when he was calling, I was making dinner for my grandmother and me, and I was in the process of flipping over grilled cheese sandwiches when he was calling me. I almost didn't answer but something told me to answer the phone. I'm so glad I did.. Now, I didn't know the man that was killed in the accident, but I'm pretty sure my dad did. Here'a link to the article about the accident. If you're the praying type, keep the families of both sides in your prayers. If not, send everyone good vibes. Driving past that stretch of road today has really bummed me out. Just a reminder, tomorrow is not a guarantee. Tell your friends and family you love them every chance you get.
